where did peasants live, and what were the living conditionPeasants lived in the most affordable, normally the cheapest home for them and their family. The living conditions would be very poor and weak.
Peasants lived in towns on the lords manor, the houses are made of a mixture of stones, straws & branches, with the roof thatcher (joe) with 2 rooms in one of each house, one for the whole family to sleep in, and the other is a common room. the common room was usually filled with an open fireplace, small windows without any glass, and instead of lights, they used candles and lit them up. houses that peasants lived in were called cruck houses, with the house being very hot in the warmer weather, and very cold in the colder weathers. instead of doors made by good wood, they just used curtains because good wood was very expensive. their beds were straw stuffed mattresses. if they had any pets or animalas they owned, they would be brought inside due to many reasons, one reason was that wild animals roamed around england at that time. their animalas or pets also could have wandered off or stolen, which would be devasting. luckily, crucks houses were cheap and easy to repir. cruck houses had no running water, no toilets, no bath or water basin, instead of a toilet, they would wee in a bucket and tip it out every morning into the nearest river, the river that they use for cooking and cleaning. |
